Reflection | Four
It was Easter morning a week ago, and I drove to church at 6:30AM watching the sunrise, ready to play the Sunrise Service. I was really tired, but at the same time, I actually felt really centered as I drove to church with my harp in tow. I began to wonder why?
I realized in those moments that music is, and always will be, an anchor in my life. There are few things I can count on as much as the fact that music is a deep part of who I am. Upon reflection, I have felt this way for as long as I can remember. Once in a blue moon when I refer to my music or my teaching as my job, I surprise myself. Those are in more fatiguing or frustrating times, I think. In the end, music is much more than a job to me: it is an anchor. It is always there in the background, in the foreground, and everywhere in-between.
I wonder how many of us have music in our lives serving as a beautiful anchor? Perhaps it is a hobby, a release of emotions, a creative outlet, or perhaps it is our career as a professional teacher or performer. I hope that in whatever aspect you have music as a part of your life, you, also, feel grounded and centered.
Let’s be always grateful for our music! —May, 2025
